The Dubai list everyone starts with
The big-name sights — with what they cost and whether we think they earn it.
Worth itBurj Khalifa — At the Top
Levels 124 and 125. Book the earliest morning slot online — walk-up tickets at the mall cost far more for the same view.
FreeThe Dubai Fountain
Shows every 30 minutes through the evening. The free view from the Souk Al Bahar bridge beats most paid vantage points.
Worth itEvening desert safari
Shared 4×4, dune drive, camp dinner. Skip the quad-bike upsell at the pickup point — it is the least fun part of the night.
FreePalm Jumeirah & the boardwalk
The 11 km boardwalk is free and open all day. Come at sunset; the monorail is slow and rarely worth the fare.
Only if you have timeDubai Frame
A good old-Dubai-versus-new-Dubai view, but a short visit. If you are choosing between this and Burj Khalifa, choose Burj Khalifa.
Worth itAl Fahidi, the souks & an abra
Wind-tower lanes, the Gold and Spice Souks, and a wooden abra across the Creek for one dirham. The best-value half day in Dubai.
Prices are what we last paid or last verified, in August 2026. Always confirm on the venue’s own site before you travel — see our editorial policy.
Where to base yourself
Dubai is long and spread out. The area you pick decides how much of your trip you spend in a taxi.

Downtown Dubai
Burj Khalifa, the Fountain and the Mall on your doorstep. Best for a first, short trip.

Dubai Marina & JBR
Beach, promenade and the densest run of restaurants. Best if you want to walk everywhere.

Deira
The souks, the Creek and the cheapest good food in the city. Rooms cost a fraction of Downtown.

Palm Jumeirah
Resorts, private beaches and Atlantis. Lovely, but you will need a taxi for everything.
